The management of the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) has dragged Mamie Tarawalie to the Freetown Magistrate court No 1 presided over by Magistrate Fidawi for illegal water connection at the East End of Freetown.
Testifying in court yesterday, Guma Area Commercial Manager Mohamed Zoker in charge of the east, told the court that on the 3rd of June 2008, himself and the Public Relations Officer (PRO)  Joseph Musa  were instructed  by management to seek the assistance of the Kissy police officer to apprehend a notorious man engaged in illegal water connection.
The area Commercial Manager disclosed that using the accused mobile phone number which he had given to a client for water connection for an agreed sum of Le 700,000 (seven hundred thousand Leones), Joseph Musa, himself along with three police officers went in to action and caught the suspect.
Mr. Zoker informed the court that, during the time of arrest, the accused was in possession of a saw blade, pipes and other plumbing materials which he said was handed over to the police as exhibits. The case according to the company will serve as a deterrent to the proliferation of illegal connections in the city. The company is appealing to the public to report all cases of illegal connection to the company stations in the east and west at Pademba Road works yard. The company has on several occasions warned the public to abstain from illegal water connections as this act constitutes the bulk of water wastages because of the use of sub-standard materials.
