The German Technical Cooperation and Food Security (GTZ/FSR), in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, has concluded support to Ward Committees’ efforts in its operational areas in both Kono and Kailahun districts.
Speaking to Awoko at his 36 Hangha Road office in Kenema, GTZ/FSR’s programme officer Rex Mohamed Kenneh said each ward development committee had developed a comprehensive development plan for its ward.
He explained that GTZ/FSR would now support some of the Ward Development Committees to kick-start their work.
As a start, it will support 12 out of 24 ward development committees concerned with hygiene promotion activities (construction of toilets), and other activities will be reviewed for possible support.
These initiatives are to enhance and improve on the capacities of ward development committees to plan and implement their own work.
As long as they take full ownership of such development endeavour, every member of the ward development committees would be involved in the planning and implementation of their development work.
It is likely that the ward development committees will in future be able to undertake their own development with minimal external support.
