Grammar school gets $3000 computer accessories

As the world improves in terms of technology, students of the Sierra Leone Grammar School will also move with this trend of technology through a donation made yesterday by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The computer and accessories worth $ 3000 is in fulfillment of the essay writing competition which is traditionally organized by the Poverty Reduction Unit of the UNDP.
Programme Specialist of the Poverty Reduction Unit, Dr Steven Kargbo in handing over the donations, disclosed that this is the second time the Sierra Leone Grammar School had won the essay competition.
He recalled that during the first competition held last year, the winner in consultation with the school decided that desks and chairs be built for the school.
Revealing further Dr Kargbo said every year their unit organised an essay competition on poverty reduction as the celebrations of the world poverty day was on 16th October every year.
At the end of the competition the lucky winner would be given a personal prize of Le 500,000, “and the winner together with the school will identify a project for the school which will be provided by UNDP should cost $ 3000.”
The UNDP Programme Specialist said the decision of this year’s winner, Ibrahim Turay, was that they should get computer accessories, and so they decided to get the monitor, hard drive, multi purpose printer, cartridge and the processor.
In receiving the items on behalf of the school the Principal, Akiwande. J. Lashite, said the decision of the Ibrahim Turay would aid in enhancing the computing system in the school as the winner had used his prize in the area of information technology.
He assured the donors that they would ensure that they use the gift in the right way and urged the students to make good use of the items.
