Six students out of thirteen from the Sierra Lone Grammar School have bagged winning prizes at the recently organized Sierra Leone Conference on Development and Transformation essay competition.
This was disclosed to Awoko Saturday by the Community Outreach / Media Analyst, Osman Benk Sankoh who said the competition was also part of the Secretariat’s drive aimed at getting young people particularly Senior Secondary School students to have a say in the kind of Sierra Leone they would like to see as the country prepares to develop roadmap that will chart the next fifty years forward.
He said the Secretariat received over three hundred essays nationwide on the topic, “What kind of Sierra Leone you would like to see in the next 25 years.” These, in turn, he said were given to an independent panel of three persons to mark the script.
“Out the best 13 essays, Grammar School won the first and third prizes respectively while the second prize went to the International School on Jomo Kenyatta School,” the Media Analyst disclosed.
The winner will receive 3 million Leones at the closing ceremony of the Conference on Wednesday while at that same event, “2 million and 1 million Leones will be presented to the 2nd and 3rd placed winners respectively.
Asked for the names of the winners, he said, “that information will be disclosed to the winners today at a special engagement before it is disclosed to the public.”
