Govt. officials visit Regent – Limkokwing Road

Ministry of Works, Transport, Office of Presidential Infrastructure and Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) on Friday visited the Regent – Limkokwing Road to assert the rate of construction by China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) on how far they have gone with the road.

Engineer Amara Kanneh told the team that the road is 95% completed and the paving of the road is completed but work is ongoing on the side works. He said since the project started in November 2018, the job has been going on and should have been completed but due to the Covid-19 which affected the work, they have made sure that the 3.2km road has been paved throughout and motorists are now enjoying the road.

“As you can see they have not only paved the road but they have also erected streetlights from Limkokwing to the petrol station at Leicester Peak. We hope they will continue it right down to Regent. Also the markings are ongoing and very soon they will finish it.”

The Minister of Works Peter Bayoku Conteh said according to the Engineers they have graded the road high and they are impressed. He said they should have handed over the road on the 31st January, but they have told CCECC that they should not rush but take their time to make sure that they finish the side works and the entrances to houses and streets.

“On the Right of Way we are having some problems around the petrol station and we will make sure that we deal with it accordingly as no individual will slow us down. I am impressed with what I saw and hope that the areas we have advised CCECC to put railings they will do it soon before the handing over.”

The Village Head Mrs Elenora Metzger who was with the team said she was happy that the team was around to assess the road and make sure that some adjustment is made to protect the road and pedestrians using the road.

She said for the police station, there were two accidents and she had appealed to the team and the Chinese to see how they can erect a wall so that it will not cause the kind of problem that happened a week ago when a lorry lost control and drove into the Reffell’s residence.

The General Manager of CCECC Mr Li Jian said they are happy that the government team are satisfied with what they have done and said they will implement the little adjustment because they want the road to be long lasting.
