Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Following 12 weeks of intense competition among first division clubs in Bombali, Koinadugu, and Tonkolili districts, four teams have clinched spots in the Northeast Region Football Association (NERFA) 2023/24 First Division Championship, marking their path to the National Division One playoffs.
Among these triumphant teams is the former Sierra Leone Premier League side, Golden Dragons, hailing from Tonkolili District. Their journey to the regional first division championship was sealed after a decisive victory over Hydro Stars Football Club on Wednesday, securing the top spot in the Tonkolili District First Division Playoff.
Joining Golden Dragons in the regional championship are Kabala City Football Club from Koinadugu District, along with the top two finishers from Bombali District, Bombali Sebora, and Smart Foundation.
With these four clubs representing their respective districts in the Northeast region, anticipation now mounts as they await the official draw by the Northeast Region Football Association (NERFA) competition’s department in the coming weeks. This draw will determine the matchups for the regional championship, where the top two finishers will earn the honour of representing the region in the 2023/24 Division One playoffs.
This regional tournament not only serves as a gateway to the Division One playoffs but also as a crucial stepping stone towards qualifying for the 2024/25 national top-flight league, the Leone Rock Premier League. ARW/12/4/2024
