A mother of a two-year-old baby has explained to Awoko how her daughter got burnt in a palm oil drum at Belebu Section, Pendembu in the Kailahun District.
Sallay Lahai, the two-year-old, according to her mother Madam Fatmata , went together with her other daughter to their usual place in the bush to prepare palm oil on the early hours of Saturday.
She said the two-year-old was left in the open together with her brothers playing whilst she entered the thick bush to do some work.
Madam Fatmata further explained that not too long, she heard her daughter crying and when she rushed to the scene she met her in the old palm kernel drum that had been burning for the past days.
Continuing, she said she had to remove her, not after the child’s foot had been burnt.
Both mother and daughter are nursing their wounds at the surgical ward at the government hospital in Kenema.
