The UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator of the regional Bureau for Africa has made of big donation of football materials to the Single Leg Amputee Social Club at their Aberdeen beach field yesterday.
Before the donation, the Single Leg Amputee Social Club was able to play a friendly match for Gilbert Houngbo so that he could see the strength and power of the amputee team.
The Public Relation Officer of SLASC, Albert Mustapha said that the regional director donated footballs, vests, football nets, 32 pairs of boots, and a host of other things.
He said that the donation will go a long way for the team and he called on other Sierra Leonean Companies and other NGOs to follow the footsteps of Gilbert Houngbo.
He went further that they were able to get in touch with UNDP as they were collaborating with them through their team manager, Peter Ngu Tayong, the communication and external relations specialist.
He said Tayong has been promoting the team and he has made sure that the international committee has recognized them locally and internationally and also making sure that the team takes part in local and international competitions.
Wilfred Sam King also appealed to the amputees to take whatever they are doing seriously, as they have a future and let them keep the spirits very high as all is not lost.
