Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Madam Isata Mahoi, candidly admitted during a press briefing on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Freetown that her ministry, along with other government departments, faces significant challenges regarding the quality of data.
Madam Mahoi emphasized that her ministry is actively planning to conduct a comprehensive survey to address these issues and generate high-quality data related to children in Sierra Leone.
The primary aim of this data generation initiative is to provide an accurate account of the number of street children and children who have experienced sexual violence. Madam Mahoi pointed out that various partner agencies and organizations, such as Rainbow and the Family Support Unit, often receive children who are victims of sexual violence and abuse.
“To be frank, we are facing data challenges in the country. This is why my ministry has been in discussions with donor partners to conduct a comprehensive survey,” she revealed. To facilitate this data generation, her ministry has engaged with various partners who are willing to support the process. AJ/9/11/2023
