The Human Right Committee in Kenema District have held a day stakeholders meeting organized by members of the Human Rights Committee at the Kenema City Council.
The Chairman of the program Patrick Adu of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD), said that acts of sexual and gender based violence is a complete violation and abuse of the right of the victims and therefore called on parents, guardians and other members of the communities not to negotiate it but to bring it to light, adding that the issues of sexual and gender based violence has become a major concern to human rights committees in the district.
Giving an overview of the meeting the chairman of the Kenema District Human Rights Committee (KDHRC) Titus Mansalay stressed that sexual and gender based violence is becoming increasingly alarming in the Kenema district.
The deputy Provincial Secretary east Mr. Jaya Samuka said the rate at which sexual and gender based violence is committed in the Kenema District and the country is alarming and will send a wrong signal to the International Community and needed o be curtailed immediately. Mr. Samuka commended the Kenema district human rights committee for organizing such a meeting adding that it is a symbol of collaboration between partners to halt some of the odd events in our communities. He therefore called on the supply side of the justice system to work hand in glove with other partners to dispense Justice in our communities.
