On the economic front a trader at Gendema adjacent the Police Station Mohamed Kamara clad in jeans and T. shirt, sells provisions and other wares, he is more comfortable transacting his business in Liberian dollar than the Leone currency.
Basic food stuff and other merchandise are priced in Liberian Dollar, which is far lesser than the Leone he said. Some traders get stocks like eggs, biscuits and other goods from Liberia. The Sierra Leone Border with Liberia is seemingly dominated by Liberian way of life. Kamara reiterated.
He squarely blamed government for the neglect and marginalization of the border area in terms of development.
He pointed at the messy police post on the Gendema Bridge with sticks and rope as compared to that of the Liberian side which is more decent built with Iron Gate. Even the Liberian Police are better dressed than our men in Uniform, he fumed.
He also said that government’s neglect to rehabilitate the road from Bandajuma Sowa to Gendema is an absolute disregard of the welfare of the people, considering the economic and social benefits it will bring to the country.
