Financial Secretary (FS) Edmund Koroma has signed an AED 20 million loan agreement on behalf of the government of Sierra Leone with Acting Director General Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (AFDB).
The loan is for the final phase of the Tokeh to Lumley stretch of the Freetown Peninsula road, which is 21 kilometres long and 7 metres wide with 1.5meters wide shoulders. At the signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi, Al Suwaidi is quoted to have said that the project is “part of the national infrastructure plan, would connect the capital, Freetown, with other parts of the country and serve diverse sectors like fishing, agriculture and tourism, thus giving a boost to economic growth.” For his part Financial Secretary Edmund Koroma said the road “would help to reduce costs of transport and ease traffic congestion as it will link the capital with the national road network.” He commended AFDB’s role in supporting Sierra Leone’s development efforts, and praised the Abu Dhabi government for “its sincere efforts” to bolster joint cooperation in the development sectors.
