A national tree-planting day has been observed in the Kambui hills in Kenema.
The occasion was organized by the Gola Forest Conservation Concession programme in collaboration with Friends of the Earth and other Environmental Institutions in Kenema.
The official ceremony took place at the New site of the Radio Nongowa at Nyandeyama section in the Kambui hills with the theme “plant tik for fit climate”.
In his contribution the coordinator Friends of the Earth (FOE) Sierra Leone Mohamed Kenei Sei disclosed to his audience that on behalf of his organization (FOE) he registered his dissatisfaction with the construction of lodges for government officers at the expense of preserving the forest for the promotion of the environment, and called on all and sundry to put effort together in promoting environmental affairs in the district.
Earlier speaking at the opening session of the occasion the Chairman Alhaji Salia Magona who is also the Provincial Secretary East emphasized the need for preserving the earth by planting trees as a major way of promoting good climate.
By so doing he said the country will escape most of the disaster that befall other nations in terms of climatic conditions.
The ceremony was climaxed by planting of trees at the Radio Nongowa new site at Nyandeyama in Kenema.
