The French Navy yesterday presented military equipment and uniforms worth 65,000 Euro to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces as a demonstration of France’s support to the Military in Sierra Leone. The presentation was done onboard the French Naval Vessel “L’EDIC SABRE” which made a stopover at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown. Lt. Col. Eric Moncomble, Defence Attaché for Guinea and Sierra Leone presented the gift to the Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces on behalf of Brig. Gen Olivier Paulus who is commanding the French Armed Forces in Senegal.
He said the presentation came as a result of a promise made by Brig. Gen Paulus to boost the Military in Sierra Leone when he visited the country sometime in May of 2009. He said such a donation is just the beginning of a fruitful and friendly relationship between the two countries. Receiving the items on behalf of the RSLAF the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson Williams thanked the French Navy for their support to the Military in Sierra Leone and hoped that this fraternal relationship between the two countries will continue to flourish. He said the gift will contribute to the quality and standard of the men and women of RSLAF. He disclosed that the RSLAF will soon send a company to Benin for some field exercise and it is possible that they will use some of the equipment to boost their standard.
