Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Freetown Terminal Ltd, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), formerly known as Bollore Transport and Logistics, has embarked on a ground breaking initiative to bolster the Government of Sierra Leone’s Free Quality Education program. The company extended support to 300 underprivileged primary school students in Menthagba village, Sanda Tendaren Chiefdom, Karene district in the North-western region.
The assistance, warmly welcomed by the community, involved the provision of essential school supplies, including backpacks, books, pens, and pencils, distributed to each of the 300 beneficiaries. The donation event witnessed the presence of teachers, parents, local leaders, and other community members.
Mr. Stanley Bangura Jr., the media consultant for Freetown Terminal Limited, symbolically presented the educational support on behalf of Mr. Bartrand Kerguelen, AGL’s Country Manager, to the students attending the Freetown Terminal Limited Primary School in Menthagba village. He emphasized that this act serves as a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and philanthropy.
Reflecting on the progress made, the AGL media consultant highlighted that just two years ago, Menthagba village faced challenges in providing a conducive learning environment. He expressed gratitude for Freetown Terminal Limited’s intervention, which included the construction of a modern primary school building named after the company.
He assured the community that the company remains dedicated to addressing their needs and supporting education, not only within its operational area but also in other regions requiring educational assistance, even after the parent company’s transition.
Sheriff Bangura, a fifth-grade student and beneficiary of the assistance, expressed delight and pledged to use the school supplies to enhance his learning, aspiring to become a prominent academic in the future. The Head Teacher of Freetown Terminal Limited Primary School, Mr. Amadu Sesay, expressed gratitude for the timely donation, stating that it will ease financial burdens on parents and prepare students for the upcoming term.
Mr. Abdulai Bangura, the village headman, extended thanks to the management and staff of Freetown Terminal Limited, emphasizing the community’s reliance on such assistance. He stressed the importance of reducing the high illiteracy rate in the community and expressed hope for the intervention of other philanthropic organizations.
