Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL), a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Company, has demonstrated its commitment to community development by awarding scholarships to 47 university students from the Seaside and Moa Wharf communities in Freetown.
Isata Kamara, a first-year student at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, shared her story of overcoming financial challenges after losing both parents. Kamara expressed gratitude for the scholarship, acknowledging that it was a lifeline for her education. She pledged to utilize the opportunity effectively and make both the company and her community proud.
The scholarship funds were transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ university accounts via a bank transfer, ensuring a transparent and secure process.
Maroun Abi Aad, the General Manager of FTL, highlighted that this philanthropic gesture is part of the company’s annual corporate social responsibility. He emphasized the importance of investing in education as a means of contributing to the development of the country and fostering better individuals in society. Aad assured that such support would continue as long as the company operates, with approval from its headquarters.
Lamin Koroma, Chairman of the Seaside Community, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the substantial support provided by the company. He credited the FTL scholarship program for significantly contributing to the education of many students in the community. Koroma appealed to the company to consider extending support to individuals pursuing skills other than university education, specifically suggesting the establishment of a technical vocational institute for the community.
Recognizing the consistency of FTL’s support, Koroma urged the company to provide employment opportunities for past scholarship recipients. He commended FTL for its professionalism in cargo handling and emphasized the company’s dedication to efficient operation, effective service delivery, and unparalleled customer service.
