Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Foundation for Rural and Urban Transformation (FoRUT) has taken a significant step towards fostering socioeconomic progress in Sierra Leone. In alignment with the theme of International Women’s Day, “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” FoRUT distributed start-up kits to 31 vulnerable female youths who recently completed technical vocational training courses across Moyamba, Port Loko, and the Western Area districts. This initiative aims to empower these young women and drive agricultural development in their communities.
Additionally, FoRUT provided agricultural tools to 10 Farmer-Based Organizations that completed various courses in Farmer Field Schools with the Ministry of Agriculture. This move not only enhances agricultural productivity but also improves market access, contributing to the overall socioeconomic advancement of the regions.
The official handover ceremonies garnered support from various government ministries, community leaders, and youth representatives. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort and collective commitment to advancing community well-being and ensuring inclusive development.
Madam Boi Jenneh Jalloh, the Executive Director of FoRUT, expressed pride in the organization’s efforts, stating, “Our initiative reflects our dedication to fostering youth empowerment and agricultural development. By equipping vulnerable youths and farmer organizations with the necessary resources, we are creating pathways for socioeconomic advancement and building a more sustainable future.”
A beneficiary of FoRUT’s initiative, Mabinty Kamara, shared her gratitude, stating, “I am incredibly thankful to FoRUT for providing me with a start-up kit. This support has empowered me to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams and contribute to my community’s development. With FoRUT’s assistance, I am confident that I can achieve my goals and make a positive impact.”
FoRUT’s endeavour exemplifies the pivotal role of non-governmental organizations in driving socioeconomic progress and fostering inclusive development in rural communities. Through their commitment to empowering vulnerable populations, particularly women and youths, the organization is paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous society. PSN/17/3/2024
