Former Broadcaster of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Services SLBS now Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation ( SLBC) Aroun Rashid Deen has donated 7 boxes of valuable recently published text books to the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Fourah Bay College.
Aroun Rashid Deen was a versatile broadcaster now living in New York, United States of America.
Five of the seven boxes contained books of religious studies and philosophy and the two boxes contained books on general reading.
Making the presentation yesterday to the head of Department Philosophy and Religious studies on behalf of Aroun Rashid Deen, former SLBS Deputy Director General Cyril Juxon- Smith, said most of the books were published in 2010 and few released in 2011.
He added that the books are specialized books that cannot be easily found in Sierra Leone adding that the books will contribute to the development of humanity.
Cyril Juxon -Smith noted that it is important for institutions like FBC to update their libraries with current books.
He disclosed that similar donations will be made to the SLBC today and the Children’s library at the Sierra Leone Library Board next week.
Receiving the books the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Religious studies Dr Leopold Foullah said he was fascinated by the move made by Aroun Rashid Deen.
He added that education is still expensive in terms of rising cost of tuition and buying text books. Dr. Foullah promised to make proper records of the books and put them in the right section.
The Head of Department reiterated that the books are interesting and covers contextualized theory, adding that the books will create impact on the lives of the students.
One of the lecturers, Dr Olivia Sesay said that a book is an important tool to manipulate the human mind, adding that the outcome of reading books will react to a wider society.
She maintained that the books will help in furtherance of education as service to humanity is their watch word.
