The Government Secondary Technical School (GSTS) ex-pupils association in the United Kingdom has presented laboratory equipment to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in Freetown. The presentation took place at the GSTS on Monday 28th October 2019. The items included equipment for the biology, physics and chemistry labs of the school. In addition to the equipment, a newly refurbished biology lab was also handed over to the Ministry. While he was presenting the items to the Ministry, the president of the GSTS ex-pupils association-UK branch, Ibrahim Conteh, said what pushed him to do the work was when he saw the pictures of the various labs. He recalled during his days as a pupil of the school (1975), they used to have all the equipment they needed and it was sufficient for them. He said they would feel guilty if they do not provide the equipment for the pupils. He explained that they had a meeting after seeing the pictures of the labs and they decided that they will upgrade them. Conteh assured that they will refurbish all the three labs.

The Acting Deputy Director of the Ministry for the Western Urban Area, Nana Bockarie, said the sciences were dying out stating the equipment was expensive. She handed over the items to the school authorities, and urged the principals and pupils of the school to take care of them.
