The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has received two prestigious awards in recognition for its outstanding contributions to national development, from civil society and women’s organizations, respectively, operating in the Kambia district.
At an impressive and well attended ceremony held at the Kambia District Resource Centre on 14th January 2011, the Mano River Union Women’s Peace Network (MARWOPNET) Radio identified NaCSA as the best government parastatal that has contributed immensely to Youth Empowerment and Infrastructural Development in the district, and accordingly awarded the organization a certificate of recognition signed by the MAYOPNET board chairperson and the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists.
Earlier, on 31st December 2011, a coalition of civil society organizations in Kambia, ‘United for the Protection of Human Rights’ (UPHR), also awarded NaCSA a certificate as the “Best Government Institution in Kambia” in recognition of its contribution to development in the district.
Different categories of stakeholders who witnessed both award ceremonies, including Paramount Chiefs, religious leaders, women and youth from various organizations, endorsed these steps by the two organizations to recognize NaCSA, saying the organization has truly made a difference in their lives both in the provision of basic social amenities, and in responding to major challenges such as youth unemployment through its ‘cash for work’ project.
Receiving the awards on behalf of NaCSA, the NaCSA District Coordinator, Osman Turay, expressed gratitude to the people for such recognition, saying that NaCSA exists to improve the social wellbeing of all Sierra Leoneans, and that with the support of government and the donor partners they will continue to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable, with the view of improving their status. He said that over the years, NaCSA’s mandate has been extended to including social protection, youth unemployment and reparations for war victims, and that the people of Kambia have benefitted from all these interventions. He appealed for their continued support and participation in the implementation of all NaCSA projects in the district.
At NaCSA headquarters in Freetown, Commissioner of NaCSA, Saidu Conton Sesay, said that he is particularly pleased as the awards reflect appreciation of their work by the local people. “We have received several acclamations from our bilateral and donor partners, but at the end of the day, the true value of our work depends on the difference we make in the lives of the ordinary beneficiaries, and these awards, coming from the people themselves, is something we are very proud of” Commission Sesay explained.
