Flooding has occurred in Lagor town in Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district on the Kenema Kono highway about 14 miles from the city of Kenema leaving over fifty people homeless. The flooding over come about seven houses that gave cause to inhabitants to abandon their premises and are now seeking refuge in other parts of the town with several property destroyed including food stuff.
A victim Monjama Vibbi explained that she was in bed sleeping when her children woke her up and she met the entire house flooded with water, she did not take anything but the children out of the house to seek refuge in other community. Sheku Koroma town chief of Lagor Jasawabu said he was in the bush when he was told about the flooding, when he came to the town he did not get access to his house as the entire community was flooded, his food and other property were damaged.
He disclosed that about seven houses were greatly affected and flooding occurred in Lagor town every year but what has happened this year is more severe than the previous years. Another chief of Kojay section Abu two said the swamp Gbetay that is running across the town is responsible for the flooding, and if it had been taken care off flooding would have been a thing of the past for them. Residents of Lagor town are calling on the government and other humanitarian organizations to immediately come to their aid. Flooding victims at Lagor Jasawabu Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district.
