The First Lady, Sia Koroma and wife of the Vice President, Kadijatu Sumana on Saturday witnessed the Handball test match at the National Stadium in Freetown.
After the test match, the VP’s wife received an official letter from the Handball Association and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to serve as their Grand Chief Patron.
Presenting the invitation letter, the NOC President, Henry Moore said that Handball is a very active sport and that the executive members are up to the task and that she would not regret been part of the association.
Kadijatu Sumana said she was happy to be invited as Distinguished Grand Chief Patron of the Association, noting that her presence was a demonstration of her readiness to use her influence to attract sponsors for the Association.
She said her commitment also underscored her initiative to use sports to promote national development, pointing out that even though there were financial difficulties; the Association was able to organize a test match.
Expressing delight for the invitation, she appealed to the executive to do more, especially in promoting the game in schools and suggested similar programme like a holiday camp for school children where they could receive instructions on the rules of Handball.
The President of the Association, Dr Patrick Coker thanked Skye Bank, Auroel Insurance Company, Commodities Trading Company, Sierra Leone Ports Authority and host of others for their assistance to the Association.
After the series of test matches played in honour of the wife of the Vice President, a 17 man delegation to represent Sierra Leone in Nigeria next week was announced.
The delegation comprised the following officers, Alie Gibril Koroma as Head of the delegation, Glen Felix George, Public Relation Officer, Anabi Yusufu Kamara, Officer, Elizabeth French Psycho- therapist, Abu Bakarr Sesay Head coach.
The players are: .Adikalie Kamara, Harry George, Henry A Kabia, Joseph Bangura, Teddy Campbell, Magnus Campbell, Hector Nyuma, Osman Kamara, Daniel Chuku Adams, Henry Gbetuwah, Ginrod Harding and Amidu Koroma.
