The First Lady Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma on Saturday 12th of September presented medical equipments worth thousands of dollars to the people and management of Mattru Hospital. The items which included hospital beds, baby courts, oxygen concentrator machine, doctors and nurses uniforms, among other things were donated by good will ambassador Isatu Timbo Nwokedi.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the First Lady Miss Florence Katta project coordinator said the donation is part of moves to uplift the Mattru Hospital and renovating the Maternity Hospital, with a view to turning it into a center of excellence. She lauded the First Lady’s effort in ensuring that women and children have access to proper medical care in remote areas in the country. The people of Mattru should start mobilizing themselves to start a health insurance scheme which will be supported by the First Lady in ten communities she urged. This is a strategy the First Lady is using to help empower and improve on the health of rural women. She said renovation work at the Maternity Ward will start in two weeks time and is hoped to finish by December which will be a center of excellence. Receiving the items the Mattru hospital administrator Mr. Julius Gulama said the hospital was in dire need of the equipments and promised that it will be used for its right purpose.
The forty foot container full of medical equipment was distributed to the Mattru, Rokunlan and Port Loko Hospital.
