In her efforts to improve the educational standards in the country, First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma yesterday donated computers, printers and sewing machines to seven learning institutions in Sierra Leone.
The items from All China Women’s Federation, which include five computers and two sewing machines were given to The Forum for Africa Women Educationalist (FAWE), two computers and one printer was handed over to Harford Secondary school; two sewing machines were given to Women’s Skills development center; one computer and two sewing machines was given to GISA Vocational training center, two computers and one printer given to the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), two computers and one printer given to Njala University and two computers and one printers given to Fourah Bay College (FBC).
In his statement, Chinese Ambassador Qiu Shaofang said that, China and Sierra Leone enjoys a long standing relationship. He added that the items came from the All China- Women’s Federation as a result of the visit made by the First Lady of Sierra Leone to China and also the visit of the All China Women’s Federation representative in Sierra Leone.
Ambassador Shaofang maintained that, under the presidency of Dr Ernest Bai Koroma the relationship between China and Sierra Leone is stronger. He commended the first lady for what she has been doing for the women and children especially in the area of improving their health. In this light, he pledged his country’s support to the Office of the First Lady to ensure that her goals her achieved.
Responding, First Lady Sia Koroma commended the Chinese government and the All China Women’s Federation for their philanthropic gesture. She said that she was not surprised for the items as she had received more gifts from the Chinese government. “As an advocator for the needy women and children of Sierra Leone I will ensure that the women and children benefits from this”. She maintained that the items touch the lives of needy women and children”.
National Coordinator for FAWE, Eileen Hanciles who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, assured the First Lady and the Chinese Ambassador that the items will be used for its intended purpose. She expressed appreciation for the items and called on the First Lady and the Chinese Ambassador to stop by at any of these institutions to see what the items are being used for.
