Johansen Football Club, founded in 2004 by Isha Johansen, current President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has unveiled the club’s first female team manager, Hannah Ginnefine Kanu. Kanu is the Chief Executive Officer of Arfine FC, a non division football team. FC Johansen started with the objective of giving hope to a group of young boys using sports as a means of channeling their energy into a positive healthy direction said Johansen. In 2011, they played for the first time in the Sierra Leone division one league and that year were promoted to the country’s top tier league premier division. The club was fourth in their first participation in the 2012 premier league and thus; performed brilliantly in the country’s major leagues.

Unveiling Hannah G. Kanu, head coach of FC Johansen, Abdulai Kaloga Bah, commended the management of the club for providing the team with a committed and disciplined team manager who will work in line with the mandate of the club. Kanu who intimated her happiness of being the first female team manager in the history of the Sierra Leone premier club, thanked Isha Johansen- for giving her the mantle of leadership to run the club. She noted that she is ready to continue maintaining the standards of the club. “I have been a football enthusiast and I’m fully ready to work with all of you; my aim is to see the club become champion of the forthcoming premier league. We should please work as a team, as football is about team work,” Kanu concluded. FC Johansen is on intensive preparation ahead of the Sierra Leone Premier League due in October 2019.
