Hundreds of students of the Catholic Technical Vocational Institute situated within the Cathedral compound along Show field road Kenema and other residents in Kenema city have to rushed to the Cathedral compound at around 10:30am on Friday 9th November 2012 to put off the fire that engulfed the quarters of the Catholic Priest Rev. Fr. Edward Bockarie.
At the scene, the students and some residents were busy taking out personal properties to a nearby hut in the compound, for safe keeping. The Rev. Fr. did not talk to the press but was just moving up and down within the compound confused but later braved it, to enter the house, while still on fire.
The new fire force engine that had just been sent to Kenema, faced its first challenge on the building.
Though the room of the Rev. Father was completely burnt the fire force team however was able to put off the inferno.
Most residents in Kenema city praised the fire force team for their prompt response, adding that the entire building would have been razed to the ground, had it not being for their intervention.
On arrival at the scene, the fire force team went into action without any waste of time and they were able to put the situation under control. It was not ascertain what was the actual cause of the fire but most residents who were at the scene attributed it to candle or electricity. Property and money worth thousands of Leones got consumed by the fire. This is not the first fire accident that have occurred this year, the last fire accident in Kenema city occurred two weeks ago at 38 C-Line, Nyandeyama new site where the entire two apartment building was razed to the ground.
