The recent increase in fuel pump prices by Le 500 has had a domino effect on transportation in all spheres. Passengers using the Ferry at Kissy Terminal Tagrin expressed their displeasure when they learnt that ferry fares had been increased by Le 1,000 in all the categories. The ferry terminal had increase first class ticket from Le 13,000 to Le 14,000 while second class ticket from Le 5,000 to Le 6,000. Van fare has also been increased from Le 60,000 to Le 64,000 while Cars from Le 45,000 to Le 48,000. Coach below 25 seats were also increased from Le 70,000 to Le 75,000 while buses from Le 280,000 to Le 297,000. Passengers complained that the increment in the ferry fare is exorbitant. According to one of the passengers Musa Kamara “fuel pump price was only increased by Le 500 and now management of the ferry had increased some of their fare three fold this is unfair.” Fatu Bangura a petty trader who often uses the ferry explained that the new fares are going to affect their business because even the prices of baggage have been increased. “things are already difficult, this fare is making it even worse,” she cried. Officials of the terminal selling tickets said for over 5 years now they’ve not done any increment to ferry fare even when there have been increases in fuel prices and value of the US dollar. He said it is but long overdue that changes in ferry fares are made.
