Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a ground breaking move to boost domestic tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has officially inaugurated the Travel and Hospitality Month. This initiative, part of the year-long “Tourism for All” campaign, aims to raise awareness of Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. The month-long celebration commenced on February 1st and will continue until the 29th.
The “Travel & Hospitality” campaign encourages Sierra Leoneans to explore their own country, fostering a sense of pride and ownership while contributing to the sustainable development of local communities. Throughout February, residents and visitors can partake in various activities showcasing the nation’s diverse attractions.
The campaign includes special tour packages, guided cultural heritage tours, nature trail hikes, beach festivals, and culinary events highlighting local cuisines. These thoughtfully curated events offer participants a comprehensive experience of Sierra Leone’s historical landmarks and picturesque landscapes.
The collaboration involves the Ministry, the National Tourist Board, and the Monuments and Relics Commission, emphasizing a unified commitment to promoting domestic tourism and its potential to drive socio-economic progress. Additionally, the campaign aims to educate the public on the importance of preserving Sierra Leone’s cultural and natural heritage.
Stakeholders from the hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, have pledged their support for the campaign. They are offering special promotions and packages to make exploring Sierra Leone more accessible to everyone.
The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs expressed enthusiasm about the campaign, stating, “We are excited to launch this landmark campaign to highlight the beauty and diversity of Sierra Leone.
