Freetown City Council (FCC) last Friday completed arrangements to take over Freetown United Football Club at a colorful ceremony at the Council Conference Hall, at Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown.
The Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Herbert George Williams disclosed that they have now decided to rename the club, Freetown City Football Club (FCFC) and would be controlled by the Freetown City Council.
He stressed that it is a memorable day for him as it was his dream to improve sports in the Council and the Country as a whole.
He averred that most people would wonder why the move to take over a football club; this, he said is a step towards developing sports in the Country.
The Mayor pointed out that registered players would be enrolled at the FCC; with their names on the payroll, even after they would have stopped playing football.
He further disclosed that plans are under way to secure the services of a foreign players and a foreign coach, to add flavor to the game.
He noted that they would be in touch with Hull City Football Club, for possible collaboration.
