The newly-elected Mayor of Freetown Franklyn Bode Gibson, yesterday failed to attend the regular weekly press briefing held at the Ministry of Information and Communication conference hall, at Youyi Building, Brookfields, Freetown.
The Conference hall was filled with media practitioners expecting the Freetown City Council (FCC) Mayor to be the main speaker in the briefing as stated in the agenda sent to all. The Mayor was expected to explain about the present Operation WID that was recently launched by President Ernest Bai Koroma on Friday, and also for him to answer various questions from members of the press about the sustainability of the operation and other relevant issues relating to the beautification of Freetown
According to the Public Outreach Affairs Coordinator, in the office of the Government spokesperson, Abdulai Bayraytay, who was also the chairman at the briefing, they consulted the Mayor in the early hours of the day, when he (the Mayor) confirmed the time for his arrival at the hall which was 12:45pm, as the briefing should start at 1pm.
As a result of his non- appearance in the conference hall for the briefing at the stipulated time, Abdulai Bayraytay then turned the briefing into a question and answer session, where he revealed that fuel will enter the shores of Freetown at around 5pm, to ease the present fuel crisis in the country, just to keep the pressmen waiting for the coming of the Mayor which never happened, as he (Abdulai Bayraytay) later apologized to members of the press for the absence of the Mayor from the briefing.
