Following concerns raised by citizens about the 2.6 billion Leones generated from tax collection last year, the Freetown City Council has explained precisely how the said amount was spent.
Speaking to Awoko, the FCC Public Relations Officer Syril Mattia said the 2.6 billion Leones collected last year, had been used and that the Council has done a lot with the money.  Mr. Mattia highlighted some of the projects the Council had undertaken and which cost them a lot of money.
He made mention of the cleaning and the fencing of the Wilberforce, Ascension town, Kingtom, and the Kissy road cemeteries.
He said the Council had also taken the initiative to put up new infrastructures and repair old ones.
The construction of the multi-purpose market complex at Sewa grounds another market to kick-off at Fisher Street, a new market at Murray town, and the reconstruction of Kroo town road market.
Mr. Mattia also talked about the increase in the sanitary facility in the city adding that the most recent one was constructed at State House.
He further reiterated that the Le 2.6 billion the people are questioning is not even enough to run the Council. He said since the cleaning of the city lies with the Freetown waste management company Council had allocated over 140million Leones to the company for the cleaning of the city alone apart from other logistics provided by the Council.  “Don’t forget we are also paying the workers of this very company, huge sums of money as salary”.
He also stated that the Council’s position is clear with regards to certain responsibility, which most people thought should be undertaken by the Council.
The repairing of roads and the construction of feeder roads solely rests on the shoulder of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority he said.
