One of the newly promoted teams to this year’s Premier League, FC Johansen has registered its first victory in the ongoing league last Sunday at the National stadium when they defeated Old Edwardians by a goal to nil.
The only goal of the match was scored by George Davis through a dying minute free kick. The opportunity came following the winner’s failure to convert in the first half a penalty kick which hit the cross bar.
FC Johansen has now secured four points from two matches after they were held to a goalless draw in their first match with Bo Rangers at the Bo Coronation Ground.
Speaking to this press after the match on Sunday, Old Edwardians Coach, Amidu Karim expressed frustration at the loss of his “first game as a coach” noting that he feels “very bad” at losing a game at the dying minutes of the match.
He said he will be going back to the drawing board to look at what went wrong and to prepare for the next match. “I will work towards forming a new team with the hope of having positive outcomes in all our future games,” Coach Amidu Karim stated.
In the other matches played in Tongo field in Kenema, the host, Gem Stars, lost to Kamboi Eagles by a goal to nil while in Makeni the host, Wusum Stars defeated Diamond Stars to register their second victory in a row after defeating Central Parade in their opening match by the same margin. Wusum Stars now lead the table with six points from two matches.
The league continues tomorrow at the National Stadium with Freetown City Council locking horns with Central Parade and on Thursday, 19th January, defending champions, Ports Authority will clash with FC Kallon, while on Friday, 20th January, Mighty Blackpool will also lock horns with arch rivals, East End Lions at the National Stadium in Freetown.
