Farmers across the board are being warned to strictly embark upon the production of quality products thereby maximising higher foreign exchange.
This popular outcry comes against the backdrop of poor products brought to the markets, a situation largely accounting for poor foreign exchange earnings which has continued to affect the country’s financial status.
Sounding the warning at a press conference held recently, Principal Inspector of Produce, Frank Massaquoi and the Senior Inspector of Produce, South, Christopher Jusu Alpha urged farmers to make good use of the comparative advantage which requires farmers to grow crops that can best fit into the locality and can further boost the capacity of the farmer.
They also sensitized farmers on the Ministry’s plan to boost agriculture thereby adding value to their goods. Explaining in detail, both the Principal Inspector of Produce and the Regional Inspector said all will be done to commercialise agriculture and that careful measures are going to be put in place to kick against the production of poor quality products especially for cocoa, coffee and that farmers are being encouraged to grow benni seed in the Bo District.
Critics say Drivers Union Presidential appointment is unconstitutional
By Easmon Moiguah
The appointment of Regional Drivers’ Union executives by the Union President has roundly been described as unconstitutional and totally illegal and needs an instant attention. The former Regional Drivers’ Union Chairman, Sylvester Braima further called for the instant dissolution of such regional arrangements to be replaced by elected membership.
This call comes amidst protests from respective regions all demanding for all-out elections in line with the Union’s Constitutional Mandate.
Cataloguing his criticisms recently, the out gone Drivers’ Union Chairman in turn accused the appointed regional scribe, South, Moses Sandy for allegedly misinforming the public and thereby illegally engaging in firing of various Park Chairpersons at Gendema and Bonthe District.
Sylvester Braima was quick to condemn the Union’s President, Alhaji Fofana for unconstitutionally imposing Regional Executives on innocent Drivers’ Union membership in all four regions, West, North, South and East respectively.
There has been no reaction yet from either the National Executives in Freetown or the Regional Executive in Bo headed by Abu Saidu, alias Abu White.
It must be stated that as most of the time the Drivers’ Union has been riddled with constitutional problems thus rendering the Union totally ineffective thereby posing antagonism among opposing factions.
