The National Association of Farmers Sierra Leone (NAFSL) Eastern region branch has ended a three days HIV/AIDS awareness raising and sensitization campaign in Foindu, in Kakajama section in the Kenema district.
The Regional Secretary of the Association NAFSL said the programme was designed by the Association and funded by the district council to help raise awareness among youth through social activities.
He said that the campaign was directed at Foindu community because of the high risk the people face due to lack of education about the disease (HIV/AIDS).
Mr. Koroma revealed that among the social activities organized were a cultural dance, football match and the distribution of condoms.
He said that a cultural dance was organized which attracted a large number of youth and young adults as well as the aged.
A football match in the form of a gala competition also brought large numbers of youths to spread the message fast among them which he said created a great impact on the whole community.
The Secretary General said that even though the fund provided for the activities was not enough but they managed to judiciously spend to meet their required goal.
In his closing statement Mr. Albert Hamond of NAFSL reinterated that HIV/AIDS is real and that there are preventive measures which include the use of condom, abstinence and faithfulness to one partner.
He called on the entire community to go for HIV test to know their status.
