Farmer Samai Lahai, 20, of Vaahun Village, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District has been sentenced to six months imprisonment during his last appearance in the High Court of Kenema before Presiding High Court Judge Abdulrahman Mansaray on one count of killing an animal with intent to steal contrary to Section 4 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The particulars of offence stated that the convict in the early hours of 19th June 2020 entered the kitchen of his uncle’s wife, who sells food in the village. Lahai was accused of catching the mother hen and twisting its neck to its death. When the woman heard the hen clucking, she quietly came out and hid herself in a dark place.
As the convict navigated his way out of the place, the woman pounced on him and started shouting for help until neighbours came and helped her. The hen was valued at Le100,000.
Lahai was then taken to the police station and subsequently landed in court where he pleaded guilty to the offence. He was defended by lawyer Patrick Kamara of the Legal Aid Board while Momoh Lansana prosecuted the matter.
