As a way of establishing lasting peace and love among the people of Pujehun after the civil war and political differences have led to their division, ‘Fambul Tok’ has finally made their mark in that part of the country.
This was done in a meeting held at Wanjay on Thursday in Pujehun, where Paramount Chiefs from the different Chiefdoms and sections, together with their mammy queens, civil societies and other stakeholders, graced the wonderful programme.
According to John Caulker, the Executive Director of Fambul Tok, his organisation started operations just after the civil war in the country, because in Sierra Leone before the war, people used to see themselves as one family, but with the after the war, people became divided as a result of their roles in the conflict, directly or in-directly.
He maintained that Fambul Tok started operations in 2008 in Kailahun and then later to Koinadugu, Kono, Moyamba and Bombali and has succeeded in uniting family members and community people who have been apart for quite a long time after the war, as most people have done wrong to others either consciously or unconsciously, explaining that this week, Fambul Tok will hand over the project in Kailahun to the people, which has been in operation for five years.
“Our purpose of coming here today is to get your consent whether Fambul Tok should operate in Pujehun or not. If you give us the go-ahead to operate, we will choose the executive members now together with the chairman of the group” he declared, disclosing that the executive members should not be an active politician, as the organisation is a non-political one that seeks to unite people in the communities.
Sheik Mamoud Abdulai Gandie from Sowa Chiefdom disclosed that choosing to work with the Pujehun Youth for Development (PYD) organisation was the right decision taken by Fambul Tok, as PYD is working greatly in various communities in the district together with other civil societies, and disclosed that they welcome the idea and want it to be implemened immediately in Pujehun as most of them only benefit from Fambul Tok through radio stations, as he says “ only the person that a man meets in the dark, will show him where to sit, as he had been there for long and knows the terrain”.
Representing the Council of Paramount Chiefs in that part of the country, P.C. Samuel A.S. Gbandi II, who happens to be the Chairman of the council, said that they need everlasting peace in the district, as they have been apart for quite some time, explaining that whatever decision that is taken in the meeting, will be transmitted to the other members of the council, as they want development in their district through peace and love for each other.
After accepting the concept by various stakeholders in the district, some members of Fambul Tok assisted the representatives from the twelve sections in the district to choose the executive members who will over look the affairs of the work in the district, as six sections were selected for a start of the programme, including Yansinde Goleyma and Sabba section in Gpaka Chiefdom, Sabba I &II in Sowa chiefdom, Lower Pembe section and Kahaimor in Marlen chiefdom among the twelve sections in the district.
All the participants were given a peace mother T-Shirt and a hand band, as a start of the programme while a Video clip about the activities of Fambul Tok was shown to them during the ceremony.
