The ongoing maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination campaign, organised by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, is greatly affected in the Kenema District by rumours that the vaccine contains substances that cause infertility.
Head of the immunization campaign, Patrick Songu, says many women and girls are refusing to take the vaccine, fearing that it may affect their ability to bear children.
Mr Songu tells the press that those spreading the information have the motive of disrupting the intervention to fight the tetanus infection in the country.
He therefore encourages women of childbearing age to go for the immunization so that they will be prevented from the infection.
He says he has now adopted a strategy of visiting schools and market places to see that every woman is immunized.
