Interviews for entry to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Fourah Bay College will take place today Wednesday July 8, 2009.
It was earlier scheduled to take place on Friday July 3 but was abruptly cancelled by the Head of Department Law, Lawyer Eke Halloway. He confirmed to Awoko Monday at his Chambers on Howe Street that the cancelled interview will now take place today as the deputy vice Chancellor of FBC had intervened.
Several stories were advanced for the cancellation of the interview. It was said by onlookers that on Friday, 3 when short listed candidates were assembled; a bitter argument ensued between the Head of Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Dr. Osman Gbla. It was said the exchange of words was bitter which eventually forced the Head of Department to cancel the interview.
The reasons were that the processes for the short listing of candidates were not pleasing to all and that regional and requirements into the law department were ignored. Mr. Halloway told Awoko he that did not allow the interview because they wanted to be part of the whole process and to ensure that the whole process was genuine. He also said it was not proper for University graduates to be left out and to only short list those with only WASCE or GCE O’Level results.
These allegations were rebuffed by the dean of the Faculty who claimed that the processes were transparent.
