Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a thrilling turn of events, Kamil Conteh has expressed his excitement about joining Rovers and eagerly anticipates hitting the ground running on the pitch. The 21-year-old midfielder’s sentiments come on the heels of signing a contract that will keep him with Rovers until June 2027. Conteh, formerly with League Two side Grimsby Town, made the move for an undisclosed fee.
Speaking on the significance of his decision to join Rovers, Conteh shared, “I’m excited to be here and am looking forward to cracking on and getting playing. In terms of the size of the club, where they are in the table, and the manager’s plans for me, I just really wanted to be a part of it.”
Rovers’ boss, Matt Taylor, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “I’m really pleased. It’s been in the pipeline for a little while, so I’m thrilled to get it over the line and get him down here and have him available for Saturday’s game. He’s a player we’ve admired for a while now. I think he adds something to our midfield. Obviously, on the back of Grant Ward’s injury, and the loan lads going back to their parent clubs, we’ve been a little bit light in that department. So, it’s important we have him here and that we keep adding to it.”
Conteh’s addition is seen as a valuable reinforcement for Rovers’ midfield, especially in the wake of recent challenges. With his impressive track record, having made 29 appearances for Grimsby Town this season, Conteh is poised to make a positive impact on the team’s performance.
The Sierra Leone international, who boasts eight caps for his national team, brings experience from his time with Championship clubs Middlesbrough and Watford. Having started his youth career with Watford, Conteh’s journey includes a move to Boro in May 2022, following a successful trial period. His versatility and skills were further showcased during a loan stint with National League side Gateshead, where he played 34 times, scoring three goals.
Rovers fans eagerly await the debut of Kamil Conteh, optimistic that his inclusion will enhance the team’s midfield dynamics and contribute to their success on the pitch. BT/29/1/2024
