Ex-Servicemen Association under probe

Major General Samuel Williams, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has ordered an investigation into the activities of the Ex-Servicemen Association for alleged corruption and other malpractices. The board of inquiry head by Colonel A. Bangura of Joint Force Headquarters, consists of four other officers, have been ordered to look into the activities of the executive of the ex-servicemen’s association under the leadership of Lt-Col. A. B. Mansaray. The investigation arose after a formal complaint was made to the CDS by the scribe of the association, Lt-Col (Rtd) F. S. Gottor about the fraudulent withdrawal of money from the association’s bank account by the President and his vice, Captain (Rtd) S.M. Turay, together with other irregularities within the present executive that needs urgent amendments. Another allegation levied against the President is that he denied receiving any money from the former executive headed by Alhaji Emadu Rogers, but it has been revealed that the sum of Le10m was indeed handed over by the latter, which the former is alleged to have failed to account to the general membership. Even a receipt signed by the Vice President for the said amount is currently doing the rounds amongst the ex-servicemen. During a snap interview with the scribe of the association, Lt. Col (Rtd) Gottor, he commented that “the matter was an in-house issue and it would be solved amicably,” but emphasized that he made a formal report to the CDS because he wanted to see changes and the growth of the organization like their counterparts in the sub-region.”
