The EU Election Observation Mission for Sierra Leone has handed over stationary and office equipment to National Election Watch (NEW).
The National Election Watch (NEW) is a coalition of 75 local civil society organizations which has trained local election monitors.
The goods which include office supplies, office furniture, communication and computer equipment, were purchased for the operations of the EU Elections Observation Mission.
Rather than taking the equipment back to Europe or another location for the next Observation mission the EU has decided to donate the items to local organisations in Sierra Leone.
NEW has been selected as a recipient because the European Commission would like to acknowledge the excellent work it is carrying out to ensure a democratic environment with free, fair and transparent elections.
The European Commission Representative, Mr. Markus Handke and the International Organization for Migration Chief of Mission, Mr. Andrew Choga, handed over the equipment and office supplies on Friday 28 September at the headquarter of the EU observation mission.
The medical kits and mosquito nets that were bought for the EU observers will be donated later to organisations that are active in the area of health services.
