The Sierra Leone Peoples Party Presidential Candidate Brig. Maada Bio in the just-concluded elections says he is not happy with the increasing ethnic and regional polarization before and after the multi-tier elections.
Bio expressed this to the Guinean President, Prof. Alpha Conde while on a recent visitb to Guinea.
Addressing the Press at the SLPP Headquarters just after his return from the Guinean capital, Conakry, where he and three others have been on a courtesy visit to the Guinean President, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio also complained that his party members are facing acrid molestation and intimidation after the November 17 polls.
Maada Bio therefore called on the Guinean President to use his good office to enhance peaceful co-existence. “I therefore called on him to use his good office to ensure that we all work together in the best interest of peace and stability in Sierra Leone and the sub-region” Bio maintained.
The former SLPP Presidential candidate emphasized that “…no Sierra Leonean should be intimidated or marginalized because of their political, regional or ethnic affiliation”.
Rtd. Brig. Bio quoted Prof. Alpha Conde as saying: “…it was always important to avoid ethnic tensions….our people have always been together. It is only politics that tends to divide them.”
He said that the Guinean President called on them (politicians) to consolidate unity, adding that he (H.E. Alpha Conde) shared their (SLPP) concerns about the arrest and detention of their supporters, and the need to maintain civil liberties.
It could be recalled that on Friday, December 14th 2012, Maada Bio received an invitation from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, Mohamed Said Fofana, on behalf of the Guinean President H.E Prof. Alpha Conde, requesting him to pay a family visit to the sister country.
Julius Maada Bio left Sierra Leone onboard a plane provided by the Guinean Government, accompanied by Dr. Alusine Fofana, Mrs. Isata Jabbie-Kabbah and Alhaji Kanja Sesay.
