The Executive Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Sierra Leone; Michael Schulenburg on Tuesday 1st February made an inspiring visit to Taiama town where he had the opportunity to meet with pupils of the Taiama Secondary School. In a move towards capacitating teachers and students of the School in the area of Information Technology he promised to give the school computers that will be connected to internet service. He said this will help the children to access current information about worldly affairs.
The ERSG was accompanied by Sam King a native of Taiama who is now a renowned business tycoon in Sierra Leone.
The warm welcome given to the ERSG upon his arrival at Taiama could be likened to the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as narrated by the Holy Bible. School children were flying banners carrying welcome messages for Michael Schulenburg while traditional dancers exhibited their unique culture to the amazement of their visitors.
The ERSG encouraged pupils to value peace and concentrate on their education as it is an important ingredient for a brighter future.
Sam King who is presently seen as a success story of Taiama explained to the pupils the number of challenges he went through as a boy growing up in a disadvantaged community and how he overcame those challenges to become what he is today.
“During my school days I did not have such an opportunity but you people are now availed with a lot of opportunities that you need to take advantage of so that you can become useful citizens” he encouraged the pupils.
In response the Principal of Taiama Secondary School; Sylvanus Williams thanked the ERSG and Sam King for such an inspiring and historic visit to the school. He assured the ERSG that as an administration they will ensure that the computers that will be donated to the school are put into good use.
