The newly sworn in President Ernest Bai Koroma has as his second Presidential action (with the first being the swearing in of his deputy, Vice President Sumana) ordered the formation of a transition team.
This was disclosed by his spokesman, Alpha Kanu, at a press conference at the party headquarters Tuesday.
Alpha Kanu told journalists that the transition team which includes the auditing firm KPMG, Parnell Kerr Forster and other auditors, is to “assess and evaluate the status of all ministries and government agencies” before the new administration takes over.
The coming administration he said is appealing to every government employee regardless of his or her affiliation or ethnic origin to remain at his or her post at home and abroad without fear or pressure from anyone.
The Spokesman therefore called on all Ministers and government officials to fully cooperate with the team.
Mr. Kanu stated “nobody is going to just walk away from Ministries, Agencies and departments like that because that creates chaos” He added “You stay there, you work until you are replaced and then you hand over.”
“If there is anything stolen from the Government of Sierra Leone there is an Institution called the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) which is going to be strengthened and made to be independent so that they could investigate all allegations” he stated.
He maintained that they (APC) “are the government who wants to govern with reason and objectivity and don’t want to use sentiments to govern this country because when you govern on sentiments you would go wrong and create problems.”
Kanu disclosed “we don’t wish to hold the government in static while we wait for his Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma to make his choice of Ministers,” adding that, “President Koroma has decided to put a transition team in place to give him the time and wisdom to choose the right people in the right place who match the ability of the positions.”
The spokesman pointed out that “we must regard the transition period as merely a handing over of baton to the next runner in the democratic marathon” adding that, “the next administration will now handle the baton bearing in mind the efforts of the previous administrations.”
