The chairman of the Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC), Alieu Badara Mansaray who once defected from the APC to the SLPP and is now trying to return to his political roots, has said electricity is the bedrock of every country.
The chairman, who was speaking yesterday during a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy and Power Haja Afsatu Kabba with his colleagues councillors, said that in any country without electricity there would be no industries. “Without industries there will be no employment; without employment there will be no development,” he noted.
He added that the development of every country depended on electricity which would attract foreign and local investors, adding that the success of President Ernest Bai Koroma depended on energy and power.
Mr Mansaray noted that with Haja Afsatu Kabba as the minister, the President would achieve his vision in developing this country in terms of electricity supply.
He also asked the minister to also pay close attention to the Western Area Rural District in the area of energy and power.
In her response, the minister welcomed and thanked the councillors for their courtesy call.
She told them that no country would move without the Ministry of Energy and Power, noting that “I will work relentlessly to achieve my goals and objectives”.
The minister maintained that she would do her work diligently in her ministry in the shortest possible time to achieve President Koroma’s vision.
Mrs Kabba stated that in order to achieve the President’s vision, “we must all work in a collective effort to push the country forward.”
She assured the councillors that the Western Area Urban and the provinces would benefit from the energy and power sector.
Councilor Billy Kanu of the Tombo community said, “when we think of development we think of electricity as it will improve the standards of the people”.
He assured the minister that they would work in collective efforts in their locality to achieve the President’s vision.
