The National Electoral Commission has admitted that results are slowly reaching the tally centers in Freetown, Bo, Kenema and Makeni, due to the modalities put in place by the commission to ensure accuracy and transparency in the tallying and announcement of election results.
The National Electoral Commissioner Christiana Thorpe yesterday officially declared the names of 44 Ward winners at the SLBS in Freetown. The results announced were mainly for Western Rural, Freetown City Council, Moyamba, Koinadugu and the Kenema Town Council.
She noted that, the 44 pronounced winners of the Local Council Election for 2008 scored the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective wards and councils and in that vein the Commissions declared them duly elected councilors.
Christiana Thorpe noted that, preliminary results in the regions will be announced by the Regional Returning Officer on the exercise of the powers conferred on the Electoral Laws Act of 2002 (Section 84, Sub- Section 4) and the Local Government Elections Regulations of 2008.
She further emphasized that, the results for all wards are being processed and considerable progress is being made and detailed results by station and by center will be published for the general public. Concluding Christiana Thorpe commended all declared winning councilors and wished them a successful term in the Local council.
