Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Jean de Dieu Somda who is presently on a visit to Sierra Leone has announced to the media that ECOWAS is ready to support the government of Sierra Leone with a grant of US$2Million to be used to foot its travelling bills and preparation of documents to capacitate government in carrying on with international negotiations with its partners.
The Vice President further intimated the press that the grant is a demonstration of the ECOWAS Commission’s determination to build concrete relationship with Sierra Leone to help promote the country’s reconstruction drive.
He added that ECOWAS is presently partnering with China and the government of Sierra Leone to construct a new terminal and Presidential lounge in Lungi International Airport and also to undertake several projects like the Bumbuna phase two project, the Bikongor power hydro project, the Makeni-Kamakwie Road project, the Orogu dam and some agricultural projects.
“We are very much involved in the reconstruction of Sierra Leone and I am happy to tell you that Sierra Leone is ready to move forward as a post conflict nation and I can see some visible signs on the ground”, He added.
Jean de Dieu Somda also disclosed that US$ 2. 5m has already been set aside for the construction ( which will soon commence ) of a Logistics depot for the ECOWAS stand-by Force in Sierra Leone for all 15 member states.
The Assistant President of China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. Hu Wei the Chinese technical team is already in Lungi to start the construction of a 60,000 square miles international terminal.
