Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The team of African mediators led from the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) yesterday met with President Bio at State House.
The team is led by former Gambian Vice President Aja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang
Who said they were in the country to listen and understand the issues and see how they can support the process.
President reportedly welcomed the teams noting that “dialogue is an important hallmark of African governance processes.”
The meeting marked the beginning of the round of talks to solve the political impasse as a fallout from the June 24 elections.
The Western Diplomats representing the USA, UK and Ireland have all voiced their support for the talks on their official “X” social media handles.
According to a release from the facilitators, the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) the team were scheduled and did meet with President Bio yesterday Friday.
They will meet the APC today Saturday and on Sunday a number of other organisations. The talks open proper on Monday 16th and are expected to run through to Wednesday 18th. KXL/14/10/2023
