The Eastern Police Division has successfully generated eighty seven million and forty three thousand Leones, including fines paid for Motor Traffic Report offences.
The money, generated for the government of Sierra Leone, has been lodged with the consolidated fund. This was yesterday disclosed to newsmen by the Local Unit Commander for the division, Nepoh Senessie, at the police weekly press briefing.
According to Senessie, between the period January and July of this year, a total number of seventy raids were conducted by the division, and 590 suspects were arrested and charged to court, and the seventy eight million, four hundred and eighty thousand Leones were accrued as fines levied.
“On the whole, we have been able to collect for the GOSL the sum of eighty seven million and forty three thousand Leones,” Senessie said. The operational team at the division recently raided places along Fourah Bay Road and Moa Wharf for criminal activities and 21 suspects were arrested for being in possession of cannabis sativa, Senessie reported. “They were all charged to court and they pleaded guilty and fines were levied on them,” he said.
Speaking further on other raids conducted by his division, Senessie said recently, places like Bombay Street, Lucas Street and Lumley Street were raided and people were arrested on different offences and were consequently charged to court. He also spoke of another criminal den at Lower Magazine Street, where several people were arrested.
