The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Kenema, Al-Sheik Kamara has called on the Drivers Union in the Eastern Province to implement the mandatory decrease in transport fares as stipulated in the price list.
The AIG made this statement during a meeting with senior members of the Sierra Leone Drivers Union and the Provincial Administration, where he intimated that due to the reduction in the price of fuel drivers should reduce the cost of transportation in the interest of all. He appealed to them to be God-fearing and immediately effect the changes.
The Provincial Secretary East, Alhaji Salia Magona warned drivers to adhere to the recent price decrease or else the central government would have no alternative but to enforce it.
The Local Unit Commander Kenema Division, Joseph Kabia stated that Police Officers have the legal duty to enforce laws and ensure free movement and the safety of passengers at all times. Hence most check-points have now being removed from the highways.
Responding, the Kenema District Chief Driver, Brima Jumu promised stakeholders that the Drivers Union would ensure that they immediately implement the recent decrease in prices and called on the media to sensitize the general public on the recent reduction in transportation cost in the region.
The three Community Radio Stations in Kenema are currently airing the latest transportation cost within the region.
